2 Surefire Tips To Motivate Employees

Do you have employees that are unmotivated?  Why are some employees self-motivated, while others need to be pushed?  As a supervisor you can let it drive you crazy or you can embrace the challenge. If you desire a prolonged career in you field, it is probably wise to opt for the latter.  Here are some effective supervisory tips to motivate employees.

1) Learn their strengths and weaknesses

When you take the time to evaluate your employees you can use the experience to learn their strengths and weakness.  This enables you to focus on their strengths, and get them the training needed to improve their weaknesses.

Applauding people’s strengths will encourage them to continue to do well in those areas. Providing them with necessary training can help to build their confidence, which can also motivate employees.

When possible, it can be helpful to put employees in pairs.  Motivation can be contagious when you pair someone who appears to be unmotivated with someone who is self-motivated.

You are providing the unmotivated person an environment in which they can excel.  In addition, when you pair employees, they learn each other’s strengths and weaknesses. This can create stronger relationships, which can help motivate your team as a whole.

2) Give supervisory feedback

Positive feedback only please.  It is possible to get the results you want by only giving positive feedback.  It is important to note that employees will still display many areas that require growth. However, it does mean that you need to encourage growth in a positive manner.

It is important that employees write down where they want to be and how they want to get there.  This can help them understand the importance of their job.  Once they do that, they can be motivated to be the best they can be.

As employees embrace the process of self-analysis they will also find ways to improve themselves.  Let them know that you are there to help aid them in their discovery and provide help where you can.
