Towards Maturity Learning Tech Report

Clearly training employees through eLearning is a smart option when you are looking to keep your people current and on the lead edge of your industry.  Between the superior benefits of its economical price tag and flexible attendance – employees can partake in training on any number of digital mediums including tablets and smartphones – the practice of online training is a practical no-brainer.  Let’s consider why eLearning is the wave of the future…

One of the most zeitgeist-relevant factors that relate to eLearning was cited by the Open University of Britan.  They recently stated they found eLearning to be incredibly eco-friendly.  It allows companies to engage employees at a point of contact through digital means (computers, mobile devices), instead of hosting large gatherings for multi-day seminars.  This effectively reduces energy consumption for the training event by an astounding 90%.

This  makes a lot of sense when you take into consideration that hosting large live gatherings requires fuel for travel, electricity and gas for hotel, restaurants and presentation venues, not to mention all sorts of power to cater personally to all the individuals attending the training.  Training digitally online simply requires enough energy to power a computer or charge a tablet!   They also did the math and discovered that the amount of Co2 emissions per employee was reduced by 85%.  No flights, distance commutes, taxis or airport shuttles are required for your staff when they can participate in training right where they work.  A vast improvement indeed!

If environmental impact is not enough to convince you that your company should invest in eLearning for its people, then have a look at this:  According to a 2014 report released by IBM, over 41.7% of global Fortune 500 companies now use digital technology in one form or another to assist in training their employees. Furthermore, organizations who utilize eLearning tools and strategies have the potential to boost staff productivity (also known as performance) by 50%.  That translates to this: Every dollar spent on eLearning provides an ROI of $30 worth of productivity.  Not a bad ratio by any standard.

In a recent study conducted by the Research Institute of America, companies featuring eLearning in their training repertoire have the potential to boost employee knowledge retention rates by up to 60%.  It was also pointed out that 72% of companies who were included in a related survey, revealed that eLearning programs that they employ for their staff helps them keep up-to-date with changes in their industry.  This in turn assists in them remaining competitive and even staying ahead of other organizations.

It’s true that you can stick to your old ways that are tried and true, waiting for the future to come to you.  However just because your training methods have “worked fine” in the past, does not mean that you should ignore the more effective practices that are out there, waiting for you to grab hold and ride them on the wave of the future.  E-learning and online training represent just such an opportunity.  Are you ready to climb aboard?
